Meet the editor

Hey, I’m Evelyn! I’m a full-time freelance editor and proofreader from the south coast of the UK.

I’ve been passionate about reading and writing for as long as I can remember, and that passion flourished with the emergence of the indie author community. I’ve now been working with independent authors for nearly a decade, helping them polish their prose and tell their stories. I work with all genres, have no triggers, and I’m kink-friendly. My goal is to help every manuscript that crosses my desk to reach its full potential.

When I’m not editing, I’m travelling, ultra running, or diving into Roman archaeology — often all at once! On a typical evening, you’ll find me curled up with a romance novel, a glass of wine, and — of course — my cat!

Please note: I work in both US and UK English.

Services

Reading Fee
$0.001 per word

If you’re bringing me on in the middle of a series and would like to catch me up on previous books, you have the option of a reading service for already published/completed novels to prepare me for your current project.

Ideal for: Authors starting to work with me mid-series.

Manuscript Critique
$0.002 per word

Often known as “alpha feedback,” this is a big-picture review of your early draft. You’ll receive feedback on plot, pacing, character development, and structure, with in-manuscript comments and a detailed report outlining strengths, weaknesses, and suggestions.

Ideal for: Authors seeking honest, in-depth feedback on an early draft.

Developmental Edit
$0.02 per word

This edit looks at the big picture of your manuscript, focusing on story, structure, and craft at a foundational level. Ideal for newer or less confident authors, it digs into elements like plot, pacing, character arcs, worldbuilding, and narrative flow. Instead of polishing sentences, the goal here is to make sure your story works as a whole—that it’s cohesive, engaging, and emotionally resonant.

You’ll receive detailed feedback on what’s working, what isn’t, and clear guidance on how to strengthen your manuscript. The emphasis is on helping you grow as a writer while preserving your unique voice and vision.

Ideal for: Authors who want in-depth, hands-on guidance to elevate their story at the developmental stage.

Content Edit
$0.015 per word

A thorough, story-aware line edit blending structural feedback and sentence-level polish. This edit focuses on clarity, flow, emotional impact, and character consistency — perfect for tightening up your writing while enhancing your story.

Ideal for: Authors who want to refine both their prose and story structure.

Line and Copy Edit
$0.01 per word

A comprehensive edit focused on refining your manuscript at sentence level. This service includes line editing to enhance clarity, tone, flow, word choice, and style, and copy editing to fix grammar, punctuation, spelling, and consistency errors. The result is polished, professional writing that’s clear, engaging, and ready for publication.

Ideal for: Authors who want to refine their writing by improving sentence-level clarity, consistency, and style, while ensuring the manuscript is free from grammatical and technical errors.

Proofread
$0.005 per word

The final polish. This service catches lingering typos, grammatical errors, and formatting inconsistencies to ensure your manuscript is clean, correct, and ready for publication.

Ideal for: Authors looking for a final, thorough check before publication.

Format
$60 flat rate

Clean, professional formatting using Vellum for eBook and print-ready files.

Blurb Polish
$60 flat rate

Your blurb is the first thing readers see — let’s make it irresistible. This service polishes your back cover copy for maximum impact, ensuring it grabs attention and entices readers to dive into your book.

Frequently asked questions

Don’t see your question answered here? Email me at info@pinpointediting.com.

Do I really need an editor?

If you’re planning to publish — yes. You want your story to be the best version of itself, and that takes more than just spellcheck. A good editor brings a fresh perspective, catches what your brain skips over, and helps your voice come through clearer and stronger. Whether you need story-level insight or a final polish, editing bridges the gap between finished draft and ready for readers.

What genres do you work with?

I work with all genres. My current client base is mostly romance — from sweet and swoon to dark and steamy — and horror. I work with all triggers and am kink friendly.

Can I get a sample edit?

Yes! You’ll get a free sample (up to 3,000 words) showing my Line & Copy Edit style — so you can see exactly what I do before committing. Just email your sample to info@pinpointediting.com.

Do you offer payment plans?

Always. You can choose from full payment upfront or monthly, interest-free instalments. If you’re on a payment plan, you can still book in future projects — as long as you stay on top of your deadlines.

What’s your New Client Offer?

First-timers get 50% off a Manuscript Critique and a free 3,000-word sample edit. The idea is to see if we’re a good fit — and there’s no obligation to book future services.

Do I have to sign a contract?

Contracts are essential for the safety and protection of all parties. Authors are welcome to request a copy of the contract for review before beginning the onboarding process.

How do payments work?

All payments are invoiced through Paypal Business. There are a variety of payment plans available, from paying the full amount upfront to monthly, interest-free payment plans.

Do I need to finish an original payment plan before I book another project?

No. You can have an unlimited number of ongoing payment plans with different projects. The only contingency to this is that all invoices must be paid by their deadline.

Do you use AI?

No. Every edit is done manually.

How do I book in?

Drop me an email or a DM. No deposit is needed to hold your spot. If your timeline shifts, I’ll do my best to accommodate, but it will depend on my availability!
